A futuristic solution to beating traffic congestion, gloves designed to help young people with arthritis and an air bike for responding to medical emergencies are just some of the projects that will be on display at this year’s Design Exposure 2009 in Auckland.
Massey University Auckland School of Design Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for Transport Design, Azhar Mohamed, said each year the School of Design showcases at an exhibition graduating students’ transport, industrial and visual communication designs.
“This year’s work is of a particularly high standard and students have really thought ‘outside the square’ to produce insightful, interesting and intriguing projects,” Mr Mohamed said,
Included amongst the exhibits are: Switch – a vehicle that morphs between a car and a motorbike in order to beat traffic congestion; Solace – intelligent gloves that allow young people with arthritis to write with their fingertip rather than a pen and; Excelsior – an air bike used to respond to medical emergencies.
“Design Exposure 2009 covers a wide range of themes and ideas from transport through to educational tools and visual presentations. Not only is the exhibition a feast for the eyes it’s also educational and thought provoking.”
Mr Mohamed said the event is a ‘highlight’ for many of the graduating students, as they present their final research projects before entering the workforce.
Design Exposure 2009 will be held at the Marine Events Centre in the Viaduct Marine Village. The exhibition runs from 13-15 November from 10 a.m – 6 p.m. daily and entry is free.
