Nelson Runners to the fore in Dun Run

While inclement weather and Lewis Pass road conditions meant a few South Island trailrunners were reluctant to test the drive North it was still a record 181 finishers  in Saturday’s 23rd Dun Run.

Nelson athletes dominated the winning dias, Patrick Higgins first home in 1.54.18 followed by Dave Keen and Andre Bonny with Blenheim’s Billy Hebberd and Nelson youngster Callum Wilkie all eclipsing 2 hours on the rugged course.

The expected “battle” with Britta Martin and Paula Canning unfortunately didn’t eventuate with Martin suffering from winter ills, but on the day she may have been hard pressed to contain Canning’s quality 2.06.09 on the circuit she loves and has the  penchance for being in front .

Marlborough’s Jessica Barnes and local Frances Riley had a close race for second spot, Barnes having a 49 second advantage at the OK Corral finish.

Canterbury’s Dave Candy made it home for his 10th Dun Run finish and also now has the milestone having completed 50 Strider Trails and a very loyal ‘Badge of Honour” .

Next up on the trails  for Nelson Events is their sold out Abel Tasman Coastal Classic on October 14th
