West Coast Wilderness Trail: Day One

A blissful day’s cycling. A leisurely ride from the historic mining town of Ross to Hokitika on an almost cloudless blue-sky-day with temperatures in the mid-twenties and a gentle offshore breeze that made the Tasman Sea sparkle.

The track itself was flat to gently undulating, following the old rail-trail through cool podocarp forests. The skills of our guide also played a huge in making it such an enjoyable day – taking away all the hassles from arranging accommodation and setting up our bikes, to making sure there were plenty of fresh snacks to keep us going. Life is good.
