Off The Beaten Track

Somewhere a little special

Off The Beaten Track is located in Murchison on the Buller River the Southern side of the 2nd largest National Park In New Zealand, the Kahurangi (meaning Treasured Possession).

There is an abundance of native bush and Rivers to explore in all directions.

It has some of the country’s oldest rock and landforms, spectacular areas of limestone and marble throughout.

There is great history in this area dating back to the early settlers and the gold rush times which can be seen still today.

With the opening of the Old Ghost Road which has opened up some of this beautiful land to Mountain bikers, Off the Beaten Track accommodation & bike hire was born.

Arran, a previous National downhill champion, was living in Nelson and saw the possibility of starting a business close to this wonderful track, and purchased the former Riversong Cottages.

He went to work transforming it into an Adventure base camp that would cater for mountain bikers and Adventurers that could come set up, or debrief. Before or after their mission through the OGR or other wilderness in the area.

With a passion for bikes and years of racing & riding  Mountain Bikes, Arran has extensive knowledge of the local area that is invaluable to you before your adventure starts.

The beautiful terrain, combined with Arran’s knowledge of the trails created a desire to share this experience with others. With accommodation and bike hire, what a better way to get amongst it than with custom made tours!

The tours are a great way to take the hassle out of organising bigger groups, trying to piece together the pick up drop off, accommodation, the best tracks, the food, the gear needed. Arran and his team have this all sorted for a stress-free enjoyable time with your friends or family.  rides throughout the top of the south to suit each group’s riding ability.  Options of being collected from Nelson or Christchurch airport to start your tour, open up more possibilities for your adventures too.
