Merrell NZ is a proud sponsor of the inaugural Port Hills Ultra event on the hills above Ōtautahi. The Port Hills of Christchurch is a special place. Culturally, historically, and how they provide a stunning backdrop to New Zealand’s second-largest city. Just minutes from the city centre, you can be mesmerised by a picture-perfect view, beaten by an unforgiving climb, or enveloped by a forest sanctuary, oblivious to the modern world just a few kilometres away. Trails have been forged in these hills for hundreds of years. Their storied past nearly matching their beauty. Run the hills, and let these trails take you on a journey, from nervous excitement to joyous exhaustion. And all the good bits in between. The Port Hills have a trail network that rivals anywhere on earth. Through these trails the aim was to develop a world-class event that educates, inspires, and ultimately gives back to this wonderful natural resource, so it can thrive for generations to come. Last weekend this event was held for the first time, as many as 42 different trails were linked together to create the 21.1km, 50km, 75km and 100km courses.
