Ring of Fire Volcanic Ultra returns to Mount Ruapehu in the Tongariro National Park on a new date – 23 March 2019 – two weeks earlier than its inaugural date in April 2018.
The event will once again offer the epic solo 72k circumnavigation of Mount Ruapehu from the Chateau Tongariro, the 50k ultra from Turoa Ski Area to the Chateau Tongariro, the three person 72k adventure relay featuring the Goat, Missing Link and Tussock Traverse legs and a brand new 24k option for people wanting to run the Tussock Traverse only.
The inaugural event attracted 640 participants with 37 internationals from seven countries.
Event Director Nick Reader from The Event Collective said two hundred entries had already been snapped up with the first release of entries last week. The remaining 100 early bird entries and thereafter standard entries of the 900 allowance for 2019 will go on sale tomorrow night at 8pm (6pm AET) at www.rof.co.nz/enter.
Reader said many of the outstanding parts of the first event that people loved including the authentic Athlete Powhiri with Ngati Hikairo at Otukou Marae near Lake Rotoaira, red carpet finish after dark inside the historic Chateau with entertainment and food and beverage offerings and cultural involvement from Iwi would be retained along with new initiatives including crafted finisher rings for all participants, audio visual special effects and more local cultural opportunities for internationals and Kiwis.
