Downhill mountain bike event Red Bull Foxhunt is coming to New Zealand tracks for the first time ever where 150 riders will come together at Cardrona, Wanaka on Saturday, 11 February 2023.
Red Bull Foxhunt will see Red Bull athletes and world-leading downhill mountain bikers, Brook ‘The Bulldog’ Macdonald, Jess Blewitt and Remy Morton challenge 150 riders from across Aotearoa to a downhill race like no other where they will be ‘the foxes’ chasing their ‘prey’ to the finish line.
The concept is simple, but definitely not easy. On a 9.5km course, the riders will line up at the top of Cardrona ready for the mass start. The ‘foxes’, Brook, Jess and Remy will be released from several metres back to chase down the riders in a downhill cross-country MTB race. The goal for each competitor is to beat the foxes and be the first to cross the finish line.
Red Bull athlete and downhill mountain bike legend Brook Macdonald is stoked to be one of the foxes, saying: ‘’I’ve always wanted to get involved in Red Bull Foxhunt and can’t wait to chase down the riders. It’ll be pretty gnarly but will be an epic day that any downhill mountain biker will love.’’
20 year old New Zealand Downhill Champion and Red Bull athlete Jess Blewitt is also joining as one of the foxes.
‘’I’m a massive fan of Cardrona and can’t wait to bring my skills to the track. It’s the perfect spot and will be a day to remember. We’re challenging you to ride the course and try get to the finish line before us. Brook, Remy and I will be bringing our A-Game!’’ Jess says.
Red Bull Foxhunt has made a strong name for itself in Ireland and is known for being physically demanding, technical and lots of fun.
The event is open to any downhiller but experience and skill is recommended. The public is encouraged to come along to Cardrona to witness the action.
Bikers can register to participate and will receive access to the event as well as lift access for non Cardrona Season pass holders. race jersey, race plate and afterparty attedance.
