Images circulating on Chinese social media platforms have gained widespread attention as a group of climbers faced a challenging situation while attempting to scale Yandang Mountain in eastern China. The climbers found themselves stranded on a cliffside for over an hour due to congestion on the via ferrata route, where metal rungs are anchored into the mountain for climbers’ use. The delay was caused by a bottleneck created by other climbers ahead of them.
In response to the incident, Wenzhou Dingcheng Sports Development Co., the company responsible for managing the via ferrata, expressed surprise at the unexpectedly high number of climbers on that particular day. The incident occurred during China’s Labor Day holiday, a popular time for locals to engage in recreational activities.
