The climbing season just gets worse!
The bodies of five Russian climbers missing on Dhaulagiri I for two days were found by rescue teams on Tuesday, authorities confirmed. The climbers—Alexander Dasyko, Olek Kruglov, Sistikov Vladimir, Nosehnko Mikhail, and Shpilevich Dmitry—were discovered at an altitude of around 7,600 meters. Preliminary reports suggest they may have fallen during their ascent, but it remains unclear whether an avalanche or a slip caused the accident.
The climbers had last made contact on October 6 at 11 p.m., after reaching 8,000 meters on the mountain, which stands at 8,167 meters tall. They were part of an expedition organized by IAM Trekking and Expedition, based in Kathmandu. Severe weather may have played a role in the tragedy, as a video shared by their team on September 28 showed heavy snowfall and damage to their campsite.
