Mountain Biking Meets Big-Mountain Lines

The elite mountain biker Brage Vestavik have unveiled Planet Alaska, a bold new film that redefines freeride mountain biking. Produced by Blur Media and now available on Red Bull Bike’s YouTube channel, the film takes inspiration from the flow and unpredictability of big-mountain skiing, but on two wheels.

This is Vestavik’s most ambitious project yet—a raw and unfiltered descent into Alaska’s vast and unforgiving backcountry. Planet Alaska isn’t just about finding new lines; it’s about testing limits, embracing the unknown, and adapting to terrain that offers no second chances.

“The unknown is what I love about riding,” says Vestavik. “That moment where your mind switches off, and your body just reacts—it’s pure. You don’t always know what’s coming, but somehow, you do. It’s like dancing with the mountain.”

Mountain Biking Meets Big-Mountain Lines

Vestavik’s vision for Planet Alaska was shaped by years spent watching skiers and snowboarders navigate the world’s most challenging peaks. Unlike them, he doesn’t have the luxury of soft landings—every drop, every carve, and every decision is met with unyielding rock and ice.

“I grew up skiing in the winters, watching old snowboard and ski films with my dad,” he explains. “Alaska was always the pinnacle. I never thought I’d actually get there, and even now—months later—it still feels unreal.”

Redefining Freeride Mountain Biking

For Vestavik, Planet Alaska isn’t about setting records or breaking boundaries. It’s about evolving his riding style, taking cues from skiers and snowboarders to move more fluidly through the terrain.

“Big-mountain riding is still new to mountain biking,” he says. “We have a lot to learn from how snowboarders and skiers read the landscape. My goal was to bring that same flow—almost like water—to riding.”

The film follows Vestavik’s journey from recovery to execution. He spent months preparing—undergoing surgery, rebuilding strength at Red Bull’s Athlete Performance Center in Austria, and training in the remote mountains of Northern Norway. Every moment led to Alaska’s steep, untamed ridges.

More Than a Sport—A Pure Expression of Riding

Vestavik resists the idea of “pushing the sport.” For him, mountain biking is something deeper.

“I don’t even like calling it a sport,” he says. “I ride because it’s what I love. When I’m out there, I disappear into that world—it’s not about innovation or competition. It’s just about the ride.”

Planet Alaska is a rare look at freeride mountain biking’s future, blending the power of big-mountain skiing with the precision of two wheels. It’s a must-watch for anyone who craves adventure and wants to see what’s possible when a rider takes on the wild, uncharted landscapes of Alaska.
