We here at Outfitters are excited to share some great news with you!
Outfitters Limited has achieved the ‘Net Zero Carbon Business Operations’ certification, a significant step towards becoming carbon neutral. This means we are taking positive action to minimize our impact on the environment and combat climate change.
To achieve this certification, we measured and offset the carbon footprint of our business operations from 1st February 2022 to 31st January 2023 using certified carbon credits. These credits come from projects that promote forest growth and protection in Golden Bay, Aotearoa New Zealand. By supporting these projects, we contribute to climate resilience, protect waterways, control erosion, conserve biodiversity, and help the local communities thrive.
The total emissions produced by our business (Scope 1, 2, and 3) were 161.04 tCO2e, and we offset 156 tCO2e through the purchase of certified carbon credits. This means we have balanced out nearly all of our emissions for the specified period.
Our offsets were sourced from the Kānuka Hill Native Regeneration Project in Mohua Golden Bay, Aotearoa New Zealand, and are verified and retired in the New Zealand Carbon Emissions Trading Register.
We are not stopping here. Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond achieving the certification. We have laid out a roadmap with short, medium, and long-term goals to further reduce our carbon footprint. We are actively working with our freight suppliers to find ways to decrease emissions related to transportation. Additionally, we are making efforts to reduce energy consumption by using better lighting, heating systems, and more energy-efficient appliances. We’re also exploring greener transportation options and minimizing waste to make a positive impact.
It’s worth mentioning that our major brand partner, Equip Outdoor Technologies, has been Carbon Neutral since 2020. We believe it’s crucial to align our efforts with global sustainability initiatives and those of our partners. Achieving the Net Zero Carbon Certification is just the first step in our ongoing journey towards a more sustainable future.
We would like to express our gratitude to Ekos, the organization that helped us in this endeavour. Ekos is dedicated to developing and supporting carbon projects that establish and protect restorative forests in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Through their work, they create opportunities for businesses and individuals to offset their carbon footprints and contribute to vital environmental and community development projects.
