What Is the Free Fish Heads App?
The Free Fish Heads app is a community-driven platform that connects local fishers with people who appreciate and use all parts of the fish, not just the fillets. In many cases, fish heads, frames, and other parts are discarded, even though they’re rich in flavour and nutrients. Our app helps to reduce this waste by allowing fishers to share these parts with those who value them.
We realise that for some people, eating fish heads might sound a bit out of the ordinary if you haven’t tried it before. However, in many cultures here in New Zealand, fish heads are considered a delicacy and are used in soups, stews, and other amazing dishes. They’re packed with flavour and are an excellent way to make the most of our natural resources.
